Beautiful Sunrise this morning...(Feb 6th)..anyone caught it? [07 Feb 2009|02:36am]

Hi :)

Did anyone happen to look east early this morning, say around 745 or so? If you did, then you would have noticed the sun exploding with colors and painting the clouds with the aftermath of its wake.

Seriously...i just like to pretend i'm a poet :P

Check it out if you missed it. Collapse )

Hi,
I've had livejournals for years and years, but I recently started one strictly for pictures. One picture every day. Please feel free to add me, I'd like to add more friends on here interested in photography. Anyone else have a photo blog or know of any cool ones?

The sky was on fire before the sun set. [19 Jun 2008|09:03pm]

Our lovely Manitoba sky decided to once again honor us with its beauty.

This was after 9 pm CST, so i know the sun was low. Collapse )

You know it's summer in Winipeg when... [13 Jun 2008|11:41pm]

alasseatinuviel

As most of you in Winnipeg know, our skies can sometimes be ominously threatening, and some of the storms we have in the summer time are insane. You know summer has arrived here when you see a sky like this.

Awesome. Collapse )

Seen in passing [08 Jun 2008|04:08pm]

[ mood | crazy ]

With the unexpectedly nice weather this weekend, we decided to cruise around town with the top down. Also, I do not think I have ever uttered the phrase, "I sure wish I hadn't brought my camera along."

I'm glad that I did, or I'd have missed this bit of drama. The pictures are not great - about what you would expect of pictures shot from a moving car.

This building wasn't on fire when we passed it going the other way.Collapse )
Fire
Even as we were passing, the cavalry were arriving.Collapse )

Buy Local? [21 Apr 2008|02:01pm]

theannex
Hey everyone - new here, and to the medium.
I enjoy supporting local shops when possible, but am always interested in a bargain if possible.

Wondering where everyone recommends equipment purchases - local shop recommendations? Canadian online-shops?

Just looking for entry DSLR body/lens for now.

(As a side note if anyone can recommend resources that helped sway them in the ever epic canon/nikon debate, I'm eagerly searching for more to read on it.)

Photoshoot assassination. [10 Mar 2008|03:29pm]

conformistsheep
Hi everyone,

I've been asked to photograph a symphony being performed in a big theatre, and it's been requested that my camera make no noise at all. Yikes. I'm shooting a D80 and they're superloud.

Is there such a thing as a silencer for a camera? If not, wrap it in ...i don't know... something? Tips and tricks much appreciated. :)

Thank you.

Is there any way to scan negitives into my computer using a desktop scanner? Whenever I try it is waaay too bright and the only color it captures is blue.

Terrible yellow tinge [29 Dec 2007|07:37pm]
sannyjamie
So I got my Christmas dinner photos back and instead of nice looking pictures I got yellow tinted crap. Observe:

How do I prevent this from happening when I take pictures under artificial light? I was using a 35mm SLR, 50mm lens, 800iso film, no filters, aperture priority metering. And saying "go digital" isn't what I'm looking for :P.

Stubborn Smudges [27 Dec 2007|05:06pm]
sannyjamie
[ mood | annoyed ]

I went to Don's Photo today to pick up a polarizing filter, and as soon as I left the store I thought that now was a good time to try it out. However upon inspecting my filter when I got home I noticed a snowflake-like smudge on the glass, so I used some lens cleaner to wipe it off...

...or so I thought. That damn snowflake smudge will not freakin budge! I spent half an hour scrubbing at that thing but it is still noticeable as ever. It probably won't noticeably effect the quality of my images, but it still bugs me. Does anyone know any tricks for dealing with hardcore smudges?
